frequently asked questions
What should I wear?
Come as you are! Coming to church for the first time can be an uncomfortable experience for some, so we want you to dress like you!
Do I have to give money?
You should never feel obligated to give! We believe that giving is an out-loud, meaningful, and tangible expression of love and commitment to God.
What does my money go towards?
The generosity of people like you is what helps us more effectively reach others with the good news of Jesus. Every kids ministry toy, chair, snack or piece of audio/visual equipment is used as a tool to help make our services run more smoothly, and create a distraction free atmosphere for people to focus on what we're here for - Jesus.
Can my kids come?
Of course! We are a church for the entire family. Which means we are a church that everyone can get something out of, regardless of age!
What is baptism?
Baptism is a outward expression (going in the water) of an inward decision (to follow Jesus). Baptism itself isn't what saves you, only faith can do that. We look at it this way: wearing a wedding band doesn't MAKE you married, but it's a public symbol of your commitment in marriage. Baptism doesn't MAKE you saved, but it's a public symbol of you commitment to Jesus. When we go under the water, it's symbolic of Jesus' burial. And when we come out of the water, it's symbolic of His resurrection.
Do you do child baptisms?
We believe that just as Jesus was baptized as a consenting adult, so should all who make an individual decision to be baptized. In lieu of child baptisms, we do baby dedications where the parents publicly commit to raising their child to know the Lord, and we pray over the child and family.
What if I was baptized as a baby?
There is nothing wrong with that! However, that decision was made for you by your parents, and we believe that baptism is a decision you should make for yourself. Baptism is our way of publicly choosing Jesus for ourselves.
Will I understand the message, even if I don't know much about the Bible?
Our messages are prepared to connect with people's lives by using the ageless wisdom of Scripture and presenting it in a creative, yet straight-forward way. The services are designed to be easily understood by individuals checking out what it really means to have a personal relationship with Jesus. (But here's a secret: Even long-time Christians find these services invaluable to their spiritual and personal growth.)
What if I come from a different faith background?
People who attend Retro come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds. Together, we focus on biblical truth and teachings, and pursuing an active relationship with Jesus Christ. You don't have to be a member of a specific religious denomination to do that.
What is worship?
"Worship" involves communicating with God from our hearts. We believe in a variety of different expressions in worshiping God. On the platform, you might see worship leaders clapping or raising their hands while they sing, and the musicians play various instruments. At Retro, you are welcome to worship God in a way you feel expresses your heart toward him. For some, that's quietly reflecting on the words, for others, that's clapping and singing out.
What if I'm not even sure I believe in God?
If you haven't made a decision to accept Christ, but would like to know more about it, you're a seeker. That's a good thing. That means you're asking questions about spiritual things and how they might relate to your life. You are welcome to ask specific questions by emailing our team by clicking here.
How do I get involved?
Attending services is a good start, but we hope you'll move beyond being just part of the Sunday morning crowd. You can further your faith, meet people, and learn more about life as a Christ-follower by joining a groups and serving in the church in an area in which you're interested and gifted.
